Howard Robert Swearer (March 13, 1932 – October 19, 1991) was a U.S. educator. He served as the sixth president of Carleton College, serving from 1970–1977, and the 15th president of Brown University between 1977 and 1988. His death from cancer shocked and saddened the Brown community, as few knew about it in advance.
